A beautiful night on the woodlands waterway and great company is definitely the way to spend your Friday night. A few weeks back, I was able to work with a wonderful family from our church. She had come to me about getting some new portraits made for herself but then realized that her whole family was going to be in town for the first time together for the past few years. Knowing how much having all your kids together mean to a mama’s heart, I knew I wanted to make this happen so much for her. What a perfect evening we had.
Not too hot. not too cold.
We started the evening against a neutral wall. Many times, It can be easier to find a busy location to stage them in. But I wanted to start slower. Get my beautiful clients warmed up and ready to make the magic I knew they had inside. But they just jump right in! You can tell they really love each other.
We then proceeded to head down to our next location the infamous brick underpass near the heart of the waterway. The hustle and bustle of a Friday night in the background really make the evening come alive. Then, moved down to a warm staircase where the golden hour sun was beaming on them with pride. I love the ability to stager my clients in photographs. This allows different angles and different emotions to come to play. Also creates an asymmetrical feel instead of being fully symmetrical. Especially when you have 5 people in your portraits. Knowing how to pose any number of clients is especially important. Posing two is definitely different than posing 5 plus.
We finished up the evening working one on one with a few singular headshots. I really enjoyed using the concrete background against the rich blues and denim that the family was wearing.
The biggest takeaway from this session you might ask?
Make sure to make those memories with the ones you love. Take the time to create portraits, do the fun outing and laugh until it hurts. Have the ability to look back on your portraits and smile knowing that you were present. That is what I desire for each one of my clients. Heck, That is what I desire for myself.
